Melody Sep 23,1: I’m going to have to read this rwandz few more times before Rwandw be able to talk intelligently about Deogratias. A Tale deogratjas Rwanda successfully depicts an individualized perspective of the genocide and would be a great addition to a lesson on the history of this devastating event.
The story incorporates flashbacks rather effectively so you find out what happened leading up to the genocide and then you see how Deogratias deals with the afterm This is a tough book to read. The art is not super amazing, but it fits the story. Definitely adding it to the wishlist: Stassen is a journalist who lives in Rwanda, and his art is bold and clear, using different color palettes to seamlessly shift between before and after.
I absolutely loved the art! I just looked at their catalog and realized I’ve read a couple already, and I loved fale so much. The story takes place before, during, and after the genocide in Rwanda ; told through parallel storylines. There are moments when it evokes the horror, of course. How did he get to where he is?

Deogratias was an interesting and layered tale that I will be thinking about for awhile. On the one hand, I want very much to read it. People are mutilated with machetes, and women and girls are brutally raped in unimaginable ways, however, the images in this graphic novel does not reflect those sorts of images. It tells me about what happened between Hutus and Tutsis.
Stassen accomplishes much with few pages less than 80!
